Michael J. Williams is licensed to practice in all state and federal courts in North Dakota and Minnesota.
Mike has been listed as a “litigation star” by Benchmark Litigation and has been recognized as a “Super Lawyer” in the Personal Injury category (2007-2023) by Super Lawyers, a rating service of outstanding lawyers. Mike has been identified as “leading litigator” by Chambers USA and has earned an “AV” rating from Martindale-Hubbell, which is the highest rating provided by the peer review rating system. He was also recognized by Best Lawyers in the Personal Injury category.
Like the other lawyers in Maring Williams, Mike has been active in the State Bar Association of North Dakota, having served on the Board of Governors and as President of the Association. In 2020, he received the Bar Association’s Distinguished Service Award for lifetime service to the Bench, Bar, and State.
Mike has also been active with the North Dakota Association for Justice, having served on the Board of Governors and as President of the Association. In 2021, he received the Light of Justice Award from NDAJ for his years of dedication and service to the Civil Justice system and his consistent and steadfast pursuit of Truth and Justice.
The Eighth Circuit Bar Association also recognized Mike with the Richard. S Arnold Award for Distinguished Service in 2021. The award recognizes attorneys throughout the Eighth Circuit for professional excellence, legal leadership, peer recognition and mentoring.
In addition to helping people, Mike takes great pride in his community. He has served in a variety of capacities in multiple community organizations. In 2001, he was recognized by SBAND with the Community Service Award for his volunteer work.
Mike was born and raised in Wahpeton, North Dakota. He attended North Dakota State College of Science and received his undergraduate degree from the University of North Dakota. He attended the University of North Dakota School of Law and was graduated in 1979. In his free time, Mike enjoys participating in many sport and lake activities. Mike and his wife Sherry have two children and now live in Detroit Lakes, MN. Mike continues to serve the Firm and our clients in an ‘of counsel’ capacity.
